Throughput of goods in the port of Ploče for the year 2007 has reached the amount of 4.214.735 tones, which represents an increase by 32 % compared to the last year. The greatest part of this throughput was realized by the staff of the operator „Luka Ploče“ d.d., which handled 87 % of the said throughput, while the rest was realized by the operators for liquid cargoes, “NTF” d.o.o. which handled 9 % and LPT d.o.o. which handled 4 % of the total volumes of all the goods that passed through the port of Ploče.
In the cargo structure there is an increase in each category, which includes general, dry bulk and liquid cargoes, where the container throughput that surpassed amount of 30.000 TEU should be stressed, which is more than 65 % compared to the last year.
Taking into consideration the direction of goods movement through the port of Ploče, cargoes in transit (84 %) still dominate, followed by the ones in coastwise traffic (10 %) and imported goods (6 %).
With the realization of this throughput, the port of Ploče has almost reached the record years during the end of 80’s of the last century. Based on the forecasts, it is considered that the year 2008 should be recorded as the year when the port of Ploče realized the biggest throughput in its history.
