Mr. Tomislav Batur, Executive Director of the PPA and Charlotte Ruhe, EBRD Director for Croatia
signed Loan Agreement on November 9, 2007 in amount of €11,2 million.
The funds are provided for financing of the construction of the infrastructure of the new bulk
cargo terminal in the port of Ploče, with total value in amount of €45 million. The loan will
enable the port to eliminate existing operational bottlenecks in handling bulk cargo and to
increase its capacity to meet current and future market demands for this kind of cargo.
The construction of the terminal is a part of the Port of Ploče Development programme undertaken
by the PPA, which is financed with the PPA’s budgetary resources and co-financed with the credits
of the EBRD and the World Bank.
Charlotte Ruhe emphasized that this project is an excellent example of cooperation between the
Croatian government, the Port of Ploče Authority, the World Bank and the EBRD, and that it will
stimulate the trade potential of the whole gravitational area of the port of Ploče and contribute
to the economic development of Dubrovnik-Neretva County and the City of Ploče.
Tomislav Batur, Director of the PPA, stressed the importance of the project with regard to
improvement of both the competitiveness of the port of Ploče and the quality of the whole traffic
corridor passing the port of Ploče. The project will allow traffic volume increase from the current
5 million tonnes to over 10 million tonnes in 2011. upon completion also of the new container
terminal whose construction commences the next month.
