Due to negative global economic trends, the port of Ploce throughput fall in 2009, like in other world ports, was significant compared to 2008.

2008 will be recorded as the year when the port of Ploče reached more than 5 million tons of throughput. Throughput of goods in the port of Ploče for the year 2008 has reached the amount of 5.142.440 tons of various goods, which represents an increase by 22 % compared to the last year.
PORT OF PLOCE – THE FIRST PORT OF CALL FOR M/V “ZAGREB”

M/V “Zagreb” in the ownership of “Atlantska plovidba” Dubrovnik entered the port of Ploce on December 9 for discharging 67.208 tons of coal for Italian thermal power plants. The specifity of this event represents the fact that the port of Ploce is the first port of call for this vessel after her recent building in Chinese shipyard.
MSC TO ESTABLISH OWN CONTAINER FEEDER SERVICE THROUGH THE PORT OF PLOCE

According to the announcement of MSC Croatia d.o.o., shipping agent of MSC - Mediterranean Shipping Co. S.A. Geneva, a new weekly container feeder service provided by shipping company MSC Geneva will start in port of Ploce in the beginning of August 2008.
INTENSIVE INVESTMENT ACTIVITIES IN THE PORT OF PLOČE

Intensive investment activities are being carried out in the port of Ploče regarding the construction of the port terminals and quality improvement of the overall port infrastructure. Upon signature of the Contract between the Port of Ploče Authority and “Konstruktor Inženjering” d.d. Split in November 2007 for the Phase I of Container Terminal construction, the contractor commenced with civil works in the beginning of January 2008. 280-meter long operative quay with complete infrastructure will be built on a total land area of 38.000 m2, including RO-RO ramp, sea basin with a depth of 13,5 m for reception of container ships, and service-stacking area that will enable annual container throughput of 60.000 TEU

Arrival of ship “Dalmacija“ on Thursday, March 27, 2008 signifies commencement of cruising season at the port of Ploče, as a continuation of activities undertaken during last two years. On this occasion, representatives of Port of Ploče Authority visited the ship and handed suitable gifts to the ship’s command.
RECORD THROUGHPUT OF GOODS IN THE PORT OF PLOCE IN 2007

Throughput of goods in the port of Ploče for the year 2007 has reached the amount of 4.214.735 tones, which represents an increase by 32 % compared to the last year. The greatest part of this throughput was realized by the staff of the operator „Luka Ploče“ d.d., which handled 87 % of the said throughput, while the rest was realized by the operators for liquid cargoes, “NTF” d.o.o. which handled 9 % and LPT d.o.o. which handled 4 % of the total volumes of all the goods that passed through the port of Ploče.
GREAT BRITAIN AMBASSADORS VISITED THE PORT OF PLOCE

Great Britain Ambassadors in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, H.E. John Ramsden and H.E. Matthew Rycroft visited the port of Ploče on December 3, 2007. During the meeting with the management of the Port of Ploče Authority and the Port of Ploče d.d. they were introduced with the potential for growth and perspectives of the port of Ploče. They expressed great interest in the information related to development projects of the port of Ploče and their importance for the whole gravitational area of the port. The Ambassodors recognized the value of activities undertaken by the Port of Ploče Authority and the Port of Ploče d.d. in order to increase competitiveness of the port and the whole traffic route passing through the port, having in mind the future accession of the Republic of Croatia to EU.
PORT OF PLOČE AUTHORITY CELEBRATED 10th ANNIVERSARY OF OPERATION

The Port of Ploče Authority celebrates 10th anniversary of operation this year. During the ceremony that was held on November 30, 2007 recapitulation of the PPA’s operation so far was carried out and development plans of the port were presented with a focus on implementation of Trade and Transport Integration Project. Mr. Tomislav Batur, Executive Director of the PPA, stressed the most important projects in which the PPA was engaged, including reconstruction of the port’s operative quays and significant investments in the port infrastructure. The evidence of continuous traffic growth of the port’s traffic, especially the container traffic, was stressed with satisfaction, and for this year the port of Ploče estimated throughput of over 4,3 million tons, which is at the level of record years during the end of 80s in the last century.
