End of the 19th century
Beginning of the construction of a railway going from Metkovic towards Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina). The railway was finished in 1891, and the yearly possibilities of the railway transportation of that time were approximately 600.000 tons.

1936.
Decision made on the construction of a port in Ploce (called Aleksandrovo at that time)

1937.
Construction of a railway from Metkovic to Ploce started, and was finished in 1942.

30th November 1938
Ministry of Transport of the then Kingdom of Yugoslavia approved the final project for the construction of the Ploce port.

1939.
Construction works started for the building of the Ploce port based on a plan made by the eng. Boris Karakoz.

1942.
During the World War II the Italians continued an intense construction building and by the middle of 1943 they had already built 410 metres of shore and installed a crane.

1945.
Beginning of the rennovation and reconstruction of the demolished port capacities.

15th July 1945.
The port of Ploce and the railway towards the inland were inaugurated, and therefore that day represents the beginning of operation of the port of Ploce for the public traffic.

1st October 1947.
Foundation of the Direction of ports of the Southern Adriatic, department of Ploce.

18th January 1952.
The enterprise named "Port and warehouses" Ploce starts operating legally.

1955.
An Investment plan made, containing the building of port capacities.

1958.
Beginning of the construction of a normal-gauged railway track Sarajevo- Ploce.

1966.
Finished the construction of the railway track Sarajevo - Ploce with diesel traction, and the electrification was finished in 1969.

1969.
Merger of the enterprises "Luka Ploce"("The Port of Ploce") i ZTP Sarajevo. In the year of the merger the traffic in the port of Ploce was 1.078.000 tons, and in 1977 it was already 2.950.000 tons.

1970.
Barges acquired for reloading and storage of liquid cargoes, and the first tanker ship entered the port of Ploce in July that year.

1973.
Floating crane "Birina" of 100t capacity acquired.

1976.
Building of a terminal for live stock traffic.
A silo was built for reception and reloading of alumina.

1979.
Construction of a timber terminal completed.

1980.
Terminal for petrolcoke made.
Construction of distribution warehouse "Radenska" completed.

1981.
Integration of Metkovic port into the "Luke Ploce" ("The Port of Ploce") organization.
Building of new storages for general cargo completed.
Building of liquid cargo terminal completed.

1983

Construction of distribution storage "Brodokomerc" completed.

1985.
Building of special cargoes terminal completed.
Building of grain terminal started.

1987.
New dock built in the port of Metkovic.

1990.
Building of grain terminal completed

1991.-1996.
Port operation intensity significantly decreased due to war events in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and to the interruption of road and railway communications towards inland.

13th February 1997.
By a decision of the Government of the Republic of Croatia, the Port Authority of Ploce was formed as a public non-profit organization in charge of construction, maintenance, administration, protection and promotion of the port area in Ploce.

1997.
Beginning of the reconstruction of damaged and outworn port capacities.
Concession given for the building of LPG terminal.

1999.
Reconstruction of the dock no. 5 completed.
Feeder line Rijeka-Ploce-Taranto-Malta-Gioia Tauro established.

2000.
Building of the Passenger (RO-RO) terminal completed.

2001.
Reconstruction of the dock no. 3 completed.
Building of a new Liquid cargo terminal completed.
Building of the port cold-store completed.


2005.
Start of intensified activities on the planning and designing port terminals: for dry bulk cargoes and multipurpose/container terminal
