On February 13, 1997 by a Decision of the Government of the Republic of Croatia, the Port of Ploce Authority was formed as a public not-for-profit institution in charge of construction, maintenance, administration, protection and promotion of the port area in Ploce. According to its purpose, the port of Ploce is a port opened for international public traffic, and taking into consideration its size and importance, it has been proclaimed as the port of the special international economic interest for the Republic of Croatia
The Port of Ploce Authority is the public not-for- profit legal entity with the following responsibilities:

taking care of building, maintenance, management, protection and upgrading of maritime domain in Ploce and Metkovic |

ensuring permanent and undisturbed port traffic, technical and technological integrity and safety of navigation |
|
coordination and supervision of the operation of the concessionaires that perform economic activity in port area |
|
managing of the free zone in port area |
The mission of the Port of Ploce Authority is the creation of all necessary preconditions for development of port of Ploce into the competitive location which will satisfy port users regarding the speed, quality, realibility, security, costs, efficiency and the productivity of the services offered in the port. The special attention is paid to the effects and benefits, direct and indirect, which port services generate on the economy of local community as well as the economy of the Republic of Croatia.
Port reorganisation and the foundations of Port of Ploce Authority has created the basis for financial participation of the Government in construction and rehabilitation of capital port infrastructure and from the other side, through institution of concessions, enable the entering of enterpreneurs and generally, private capital in development of port capacities and services.
The main goal of the Port of Ploce Authority is the transformation of the port from traditional port into the regional centre of logistics where various distribution and value added services would be carried out on the goods which transit the port, along with the port manipulations by sophisticated port technology.
